It is with a heavy heart that we share that McBee Founder Harold “Hal” Arthur McBee Sr., 75, passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 16, 2020. We would like to take a moment to celebrate the life of Hal, a guiding light whose mission we continue to fulfill.
Post college graduation, and after a brief stint as a Medicare auditor, Hal founded McBee Associates, Inc. in 1973 to provide quality healthcare solutions to meet the needs of the healthcare community. His initial team of three employees worked to provide Cost Reporting, Certificate of Need and Rate Setting Solutions to hospitals and health systems within the Mid-Atlantic region of the United States. He expanded McBee’s reach to include areas of Virginia, Washington D.C., Pennsylvania, Delaware, New Jersey and West Virginia.
The rapid success Hal fostered within McBee continued. In 1981, McBee opened an office in Wayne, PA, to allow for the growth and collaboration of over 80 employees. This continued growth led to the sale of the firm’s accounting practice to KPMG in 1985, reaffirming the Hal’s continual commitment to providing premier healthcare consulting solutions to providers and the communities they serve. It is his entrepreneurial spirit, steadfast commitment to growth and passion for helping healthcare providers adapt, innovate and thrive that carries on within McBee today.
After more than 16 years, Hal sold McBee in 1989 and continued to have many other successful ventures in the healthcare industry. He founded Northeast Management, Inc. with the purpose of purchasing and managing small rural hospitals. Hal created an athletic scholarship for aspiring high school seniors in rural Wisconsin, Kentucky, Texas and West Virginia, all locations where hospitals he acquired were located. The scholarship was named in honor of his parents, Charles Gordon and Mary McBee. Over a span of 15 years, the scholarship was awarded to 50 students.
The strong foundation Hal created for providing high-quality solutions to meet provider challenges maintains at McBee today. McBee continues to honor Hal’s legacy by fulfilling our mission of delivering healthcare solutions and services to help providers manage change, develop solid strategies, enhance financial results and improve clinical outcomes.
