IRF PPS Proficiency Check: IRF Coding

May 29, 2024 | 2:00 p.m. – 3:30 p.m. ET

This live webinar allows participants to determine how much they know about coding the IRF-PAI’s Medical Information section on admission and discharge. Specifically, the webinar focuses on accurately coding item 21, Impairment group; item 22, Etiologic diagnosis; item 24, Comorbid conditions; and item 47, Complications. The Medical Information section is used to assign a case-mix group (CMG) for Medicare Fee-for-Service patients and to determine outcomes, including quality reporting, for all patients. Prior to the webinar, attendees will complete an assessment consisting of twenty proficiency questions that target specific concepts and CMS guidance about assigning IGC and ICD-10 codes on the IRF-PAI. (The assessment will take approximately thirty minutes.) The live presentation will review CMS’s IRF-PAI coding guidelines, explain how to use UDSMR/McBee training tools, and focus on the rationales for the correct answers to the proficiency questions.

Target Audience: Inpatient rehabilitation professionals including PPS Coordinators, Admission Liaisons, Rehabilitation Physicians, HIM Coders, and Clinical Documentation Integrity specialists.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Identify knowledge gaps through prewebinar proficiency questions.
  • Examine frequently misinterpreted philosophies for coding the IRF-PAI’s Medical Information section, and explain how to implement CMS’s and UDSMR/McBee’s guidance for accurate coding practices.
  • Navigate UDSMR/McBee’s and CMS’s coding resources.
